The Chinese Lion Dance goes back some one thousand years. The first record of the performance of an early form of the Lion Dance dates to the early Ch’in and Han Dynasties (Third Century B.C.) The Lion Dance expresses joy and happiness. Lion dance groups tour from village to village in traditional China for special events & new years. The Lion Dance plays an important role in any celebration!

Booking a Show - Have our lion dance team perform at your wedding, birthday or a special event such as grand openings is a great way to celebrate! The cost will depend on how long and how much you want you and your guests to experience the lion dance during the event.

History

The lion dance originated in China. The lion is traditionally regarded as a guardian creature.

Chinese lion dances can be broadly categorised into two styles, Northern (北獅) and Southern (南獅). Lion dances were used as entertainment for the imperial court. The dance is acrobatic and is mainly performed as entertainment. Sometimes, with dangerous stunts.

The Southern dance is symbolic. It is usually performed as a ceremony to bring good luck and fortune. The southern lion exhibits a wide variety of colour and has a distinctive head with large eyes, a mirror on the forehead, and a single horn at center of the head.

The lions express joy and happiness. Great Lion Dance teams like the one on this site tour around being invited and paid for the the realisic life like tradition that has been passed down for over a thousand years in China. Welcome to the Sifu Och Wing Chun Shaolin Kung Fu & Lion Dance Group of Lakeland Florida, USA! Our Events have been growing under the leadership and guidance of our Sifu Och. Our Wing Chun Kung fu instructs and performs the kung fu style of Traditional Complete Shaolin Wing Chun & the southern style of lion dancing and dragon dancing.

Throughout the years, we have been able to partake in many events and serve the community around Florida. Some of the activities include the asian gardens, zoo's, birthday parties, business openings, harvest times, weddings, lunar new year festivities, and many official celebrations. These activities can only be accomplished through the support of many local businesses and organizations. Sifu Och is dedicated to serve the community and continue to provide youths in the lakeland, orlando and tampa bay area the opportunity to explore the richness of the Asian cultures through these art forms.
