Primary targets all lie along the "centerline" of one's opponent. Wing Chun uses the least amount of force, deflecting and counter-attacking in the same motion, blocking and attacking at the same time.
Wing Chun punches or kicks can be strung together to form a "chain" of attacks. Wing Chun teaches to advance quickly and strike at close range. When Wing Chun techniques are applied, a shorter person with a shorter range can defeat a larger person by getting inside their range and attacking them close to their body. There for Quick and Direct into the Oppenent. Efficiency in Wing Chun is based on the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.
These Clips show only a very small portion of Wing Chun Application.
Wing Chun techniques emphasize practicality and efficiency to maintain its ideals on effectiveness. Strikes are intended to injure or disrupt the target. Every kick is both an attack and defence, with the legs being used to check incoming kicks or to take the initiative in striking. Kicks are delivered in one movement directly from the stance without chambering/cocking.

travel to drink from better waters... time is something you never get back, where will you put yours?
Wing Chun is the name of a system of martial arts developed in southern China approximately 350 years ago. Its originator, the Buddhist nun Ng Mui, was a master of Shaolin Kung Fu and used this knowledge to invent a way to take advantage of the weaknesses inherent in the other Shaolin systems. This new system was well-guarded and passed on to only a few, very dedicated students. Later, the style became known as Wing Chun, after Ng Mui's first student, a woman named Yim Wing Chun.
In 1949, Yip Man, who was considered to be the grandmaster of modern Wing Chun, brought the style out of China into Hong Kong and eventually to the rest of the world.
The Origin of WING CHUN KUNG FU by Grandmaster Yip Man
The founder of the Wing Chun Kung Fu System, Miss Yim Wing Chun was a native of Canton [Kwangtung Province] in China. She was an intelligent and athletic young girl, upstanding and forthright. Her mother died soon after her betrothal to Leung Bok Chau, a salt merchant of Fukien. Her father, Yim Yee, was wrongfully accused of a crime and, rather than risk jail, they slipped away and finally settled down at the foot of Tai Leung Mountain near the border between Yunan and Szechuan provinces. There they earned a living by running a shop that sold bean curd.
During the reign of Emperor K'anghsi of the Ching Dynasty (1662-1722) Kung Fu became very strong in the Siu Lam [Shaolin] Monastery of Mt. Sung, in Honan Province. This aroused the fear of the Manchu government [a non-Chinese people from Manchuria in the North, who ruled China at that time], which sent troops to attack the Monastery. Although they were unsuccessful, a man named Chan Man Wai, a recently appointed civil servant seeking favor with the government, suggested a plan.
He plotted with Siu Lam monk Ma Ning Yee and others who were persuaded to betray their companions by setting fire to the monastery while soldiers attacked it from the outside. Siu Lam was burned down, and the monks and disciples scattered. Buddhist Abbess Ng Mui, Abbot Chi Shin, Abbot Pak Mei, Master Fung To Tak and Master Miu Hin escaped and went their separate ways.
Ng Mui took refuge in the White Crane Temple on Mt. Tai Leung [also known as Mt. Chai Har]. It was there she met Yim Yee and his daughter Wing Chun from whom she often bought bean curd on her way home from the market. At fifteen, with her hair bound up in the custom of those days to show she was of an age to marry, Wing Chun's beauty attracted the attention of a local bully. He tried to force Wing Chun to marry him, and his continuous threats became a source of worry to her and her father.
Ng Mui learned of this and took pity on Wing Chun. She agreed to teach Wing Chun fighting techniques so she could protect herself. Wing Chun followed Ng Mui into the mountains, and began to learn Kung Fu. She trained night and day, until she mastered the techniques. Then she challenged the bully to a fight and beat him.
Ng Mui later traveled around the country, but before she left she told Wing Chun to strictly honor the Kung Fu traditions, to develop her Kung Fu after her marriage, and to help the people working to overthrow the Manchu government and restore the Ming Dynasty.
After her marriage Wing Chun taught Kung Fu to her husband Leung Bok Chau. He in turn passed these techniques on to Leung Lan Kwai. Leung Lan Kwai then passed them on to Wong Wah Bo. Wong Wah Bo was a member of an opera troupe on board a junk, known to Chinese as the Red Junk. Wong worked on the Red Junk with Leung Yee Tei. It so happened that Abbot Chi Shin, who fled from Siu Lam, had disguised himself as a cook and was then working on the Red Junk.
Chi Shin taught the Six-and-a-half-point Long Pole techniques to Leung Yee Tei. Wong Wah Bo was close to Leung Yee Tei, and they shared what they knew about Kung Fu. Together they shared and improved their techniques, and thus the Six-and-a-half-point Long Pole was incorporated into Wing Chun Kung Fu. Leung Yee Tei passed his Kung Fu on to Leung Jan, a well known herbal Doctor in Fat Shan.
Leung Jan grasped the innermost secrets of Wing Chun, attaining the highest level of proficiency. Many Kung Fu masters came to challenge him, but all were defeated. Leung Jan became very famous. Later he passed his Kung Fu on to Chan Wah Shan, who took me and my elder Kung Fu brothers, such as Ng Siu Lo, Ng Chung So, Chan Yu Min and Lui Yu Jai, as his students many decades ago.
It can thus be said that the Wing Chun System was passed on to us in a direct line of succession from its origin. I write this history of the Wing Chun System in respectful memory of my forerunners. I am eternally grateful to them for passing to me the skills I now possess. A man should always think of the source of the water as he drinks it; it is this shared feeling that keeps our Kung Fu brothers together.
Is this not the way to promote Kung Fu, and to project the image of our country?
Yip Man

In what real-life situations should Wing Chun techniques be used? --------------------->CLICK TO TOP
First I would like to say that Wing Chun should ONLY be used if your life or another person's life is in danger. Wing Chun should be used to avoid conflict. Self-control should be used to avoid violence. An Insult is not sufficient reason to resort to physical violence. Wing Chun Kung Fu is a Very Effective Martial Art we teach you techniques that could permanently affect someone’s life forever.
Always put yourself in another persons shoes, the person challenging you could have been fired that day, lost a loved one, or at the end of thier rope with stress and depression. Should you a person of practicality, right of mind, and training permanently injure someone in this condition? No. If the situation escalates and you can not completely leave it then you may have to use your training.
What kind of philosophy is taught?--------------------->CLICK TO TOP
Mainly, there are two types of philosophy that we teach:
a. General philosophy: Overall Development - honesty, high moral character, self-discipline, respect for others and self, humility and patience.
b. Martial arts philosophy: How to judge a situation, when to fight, when not to fight, how to fight, where to hit, with what to hit, with what kind of weapons to defend, what to do against multiple assailants and many other points of strategy.
How can I recognize a good instructor from a bad one?--------------------->CLICK TO TOP
A good instructor is someone who:
• loves to teach and help others
• is sincere, considerate, mature, confident
• doesn’t push a sales pitch
• has understanding and patience
• can motivate the students
• has a good attitude and good techniques
• teaches philosophy and theory not just moves
• cares and is protective of her or his students
Observing or Participating in a class is a good way to judge whether or not a school will be a good learning environment for you. Watch how a class is conducted; see if the students and instructors treat each other with respect and care. Listen to your intuitive feelings about the group and the instructor.
What does ranking in Wing Chun represent?--------------------->CLICK TO TOP
For us, rank serves two purposes. First it allows the Instructor to organize the class. Secondly, it provides a short term goal, and a progress report on your education.
Testing is an evaluation of your understanding and abilities before moving on. We hold a test when an individual has obtained the curriculum for a given level. If the student's understanding is sufficient, it is time to move on to new techniques. If not, then a student needs more time to perfect his or her skills. There is no minimum or maximum time required before testing. We will schedule a test whenever the student is ready according to the instructor. Students test on all topics they have studied.
We incorporate colored belts to denote the level of ability and indicate the rank of the wearer. Our rank levels start with the beginner, who wears a white belt only after there first test, coming into Wing Chun the Student has to earn and perfect skills to attain any level of ability, nothing will ever be handed to a student becuase they paid for it, only if they earn it.
The Attacker on the street won't ask what color your belt is, and it won't be the belt that saves your life but the techniques and knowledge you have earned in its path.
Is it safe to practice Wing Chun?--------------------->CLICK TO TOP
Safety is of utmost importance in Wing Chun. Realistically, most people practice martial arts to protect themselves, so there is no reason one should get severely hurt while practicing.
As in any sport it is impossible to eliminate all injuries and accidents but martial arts actually has the LOWEST rate of injury out of almost all sports!!! In Wing Chun we practice safe but hard, we don't want needless injuries but we also want you to beable to handle yourself in a real situation.
An Instructor is always present to supervise all sparring at all times. No Full contact rules for lower ranks is strictly enforced.
Why do you meditate during class?--------------------->CLICK TO TOP
Meditation doesn't focus on any religion base, but rather allowing the student to calm his/her mind on the stresses of the day and focus on a single technique.
This is done sometimes before or after class. Meditation gives you knowledge about yourself, enlightens and deepens your thoughts, thus eliminating troubled thoughts from your mind. Meditation is a way of flowing toward spiritual growth. It is a search for perfection (beauty, truth, and goodness), a need for a meaningful existence (the art of appreciation) or an escape to find freedom in a permanent life. Meditation also helps cultivate the awareness of our internal strength, thus allowing the perfect coordination of mind, body, and spirit.
Will I be required to fight in tournaments in order to advance? --------------------->CLICK TO TOP
No. We do not, as a school participate in any competitions or Require you to be in one to advance. This does not mean that we prevent anyone from competition, or even discourage it. It is up to the individual.
We Teach Street Practical Techniques solely concerned with quality of life, not fame or standing. Matches where safety or sportsmanship is a concern, are another situation entirely.
Wing Chun is a very strong style because of its multi-faceted aspects and ability to flow in and out of any opponents attacks or defenses.
Learning to win over yourself, not others, is the ultimate goal. A win over others is only temporary. When you win over yourself, you become your own master and the rewards are permanent.
How do Private Lessons Work?--------------------->CLICK TO TOP
Normal classes follows as planned and a curriculum set by the Instructor. Private lessons allow you to study almost anything you are interested in, at your own pace. Private lessons can cover in more depth subjects introduced in the standard classes, or delve into areas the Instructor is knowledgeable in, but has not yet touched on a group class.
Physical Fitness and Workout Classes are Also Available for Private Lessons these can be moderately challenging or extremely intense depending on YOUR goals.
Many people will take private lessons before or after a test to brush up on subjects, or reinforce areas which seem weak. For Students who choose bundled Private Lessons we are happy to video tape your private lessons on request, so that you have a record of the techniques and theories to keep your practice on track, after the first bundle of Private Lessons are complete we will review your progress so that you can see the effect the lessons have had on your progress and guide your future lessons.
Which classes are for beginners?--------------------->CLICK TO TOP
All are open to beginner and advanced students. Because we teach martial arts for personal development, not for competition, there is no atmosphere of 'beating' anyone. All classes focus on working with, not against your partner. Because of this, a rank beginner can work with an adept and both will gain from the practice.
More Advanced students in the Art have classes that focus on higher techniques but they still attend all other levels to benefit there foundation, current students, new friends and kung fu brothers and sitters in the art.

The lions express joy and happiness. From the fourth day to the fifteenth of the New Year, lion dance groups would tour from village to village in traditional China.

It also given out as tips during the performance where the lion seamingly eats the (lucky red envelopes with the tips enclosed.)
